I had a book signing (Birmingham In Vintage Postcards)at Vulcan's 100th Birthday Party and Dedication Ceremonies on Sunday June 6, 2004 at Vulcan Park and again for Vulcan's 102nd Birthday Party in 2006. Then, in June 2007 for Vulcan's 103rd Birthday Bash I had a book signing for my newest book, "Birmingham-Then & Now." Signed copies are available in the Gift Shop there for both my Birmingham books, as well as the Panama City book.

I have only been collecting post cards since August 1995. Currently I have over twenty thousand. My specialty is old Birmingham, Alabama post cards of which I have over 3,000 different pre-1920 views. The nice additions to my collection are a 1910 view of Opening Day at Rickwood Field ( see here), a Birmingham, Alabama baseball park and an interior view of the Postcard Exchange in Birmingham see here. The Postcard Exchange was an early publisher of Birmingham postcards. The postcard reverse, at the top of this page, is an old Birmingham view sent to my Cousin, Ellis Weeks, in 1910. A nice postcard sent to a relative nearly 100 years ago is always great to have.

I also collect TUCK postcards from cities in Alabama. I have a list of TUCK postcards from Alabama. Look at these links to see some of my postcards of Gulf Shores, Alabama and Panama City, Florida.

I recently published some calendars using old postcard views of some of my favorite places. They include The Hang Out at Panama City Beach and a half dozen others of the area there. I also have some views of the Alabama Gulf Coast such as Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan, Point Clear, Fairhope, Dauphin Island, and others. You can find them Here.

My good friend, Jerry Cowan of Nyack, NY, died December 2001. I miss his friendship, guidance, advice, and articles in Barr's Postcard News about Tuck postcards of North America. See my tribute to Jerry Cowan at this link.

In April 1997 I had heart surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. To relieve my anxiety, I carried a dozen of my old postcards (1905-1920) of St. Vincent's Hospital. To make a long story short, doctors, nurses, cleaning folks, visitors, and representatives of hospital administration came to see my postcards in CCU. A book was being planned to commemorate the first 100 years of the hospital. The author, Tom Wofford, came to visit and wanted to use my postcards in the book.

Well, I went to the book signing on March 15, 1998, got my free copy, and talked to local TV and hospital officials about postcard collecting and its historical significance. My TUCK Oilette, Birmingham, Ala. Series No. 2536 of St. Vincent's Hospital was used as the cover of the book. All my other postcards were used also. Visit the St. Vincent's Hospital Centennial site to see the book and other items for sale.

I also collect old Panama City, Florida and Czechoslovakia. If you have any of the above you would like to sell or trade, please E-Mail me.

I have some Real Photo postcards of some of my lost ancestors. I am still trying to identify then.
